You Know You're From Hawaii When…
Every city in every town in the world has a list like this: "You know you're from [insert town, state, country here] when…" We thought that the people on the mainland and in the other countries of the world would like to know how they will know a Hawaii kid when they meet one. Here is our favorite list of "you know you're from Hawaii when…"
1. Your cousin, who lives on the same block of your Hawaii town as you, is of Chinese, Filipino, French, Hawaiian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Scottish and some other things that are too small to really pay attention to, ancestry.

10. Your non Hawaii-born friend just informed you that what you know as Chinese Parsley is actually called "cilantro."
11. Almost all of your Hawaiian elementary class photos feature an entire class of barefoot children.
12. You frequently say things in that distinctive Hawaiian dialect and understand that "I all pow" means "I'm done, thank you" and "I going drive one store for eats, yah" means "I'm going to go to the store and get us some food, okay?" And window shopping is called "Going shop just for look"
13. You call "Top Ramen" "Saimin" and understand that pineapples do not actually grow in trees.
14. Your elementary school music lessons all involved learning how to play and then playing the Hawaii ukulele
15. You call "Soy Sauce" "Shoyu" and "Snow Cones" are actually "Shave ice"
16. Every month you were forced to go through an "uku" check in school (lice check) and in Hawaii, when your whole class was pronounced "uku free" you got to have a party.
17. You tell Portagee jokes and not Polack jokes
18. You automatically take off your shoes when you visit someone else's home, even after you move away from Hawaii.
19. No matter how long you live outside of Hawaii, you automatically shiver when the temperature goes below seventy degrees.
20. You have never been able to figure out how to accurately tell which direction in Hawaii is north.
